Wageningen CAWA: centre for animal welfare and adaptation

The Wageningen university chair group Adaptation Physiology and the Wageningen UR Livestock Research department Animal Welfare intensify their collaboration by forming a joint centre. The name is Wageningen CAWA: Centre for Animal Welfare and Adaptation. On May 24 2011, CAWA had its internal start-up.

Key player on welfare of production animals

CAWA is composed of two of the largest research groups on welfare of production animals. Is has the ambition to be a key player in this field, both at national and international level. The combination of a research group and a contract research group forms a research line that covers the whole range from fundamental science to practical application.

Open network structure

A special feature of the centre is its open network structure. The heart is composed of the two mentioned groups, but researchers and groups active on related fields are welcome to join. An invitation on this will be posted shortly after the internal start up.
